Sanyo ECJ-F50S Micro-Computerized 5-Cup Rice Cooker and Steamer

Product Description

Enjoy healthy cooking prepared easily in this mult-function unit. Making rice, soup and steaming vegetables is easy as Sanyo has incorporated the latest in micro-computerized technology in this attractive cooker. Eliminate uneven cooking with the extra thick 3.5mm titanium coated inner pot that makes sure you get no cold or undercooked areas. Since the inner pot is thick, heat distribution is more even and remains constant throughout the cooking process. This results in food prepared as you expect. Multiple rices such as white, brown, rinse-free, mixed, sweet, sprouted brown and the Korean specialty dish Dol Sot Bi Bim Bab are started simply by locating the water level marked on the inner pot for each type of rice, pouring water to the correct marking, selecting the type of rice by pushing the menu key and pushing the start button. Doesn't get much easier than that! In addition, the menu key has settings for slow cook (soups and stews), porridge, steaming and quick cooking. The multi-language instruction manual (English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese) with recipes is easily understood and guides you through the different cooking operations. A unique steaming tray is included that allows not only preparation of vegetables but incorporates the ability to steam eggs. Want your food ready after a hard day at the office? Preset your food to cook up to 24 hours ahead of time with the LCD clock/timer. Running a little late even though you have your food timed? An automatic keep warm function will make sure prepared food is kept at its optimum heat level for up to 12 hours. Easy cleanup is managed with the non-stick inner pot and removable steam vent. A retractable cord and carrying handle make it convenient to bring the food right to your dining area. A measuring cup, non-stick spatula and multi-language manual with recipes included are packaged in the carton. White color with stainless steel accents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect rice cooker for brown rice, March 28, 2008
By
This review is from: Sanyo ECJ-F50S Micro-Computerized 5-Cup Rice Cooker and Steamer (Kitchen)
I am Asian and eat rice everyday. I bought this rice cooker to replace my 8 years old National 8 cups white rice cooker/warmer,which is still working fine only it was too big for our family. We change to eat only brown rice now and the old one can not make brown rice as good as this new one. I did research many brands and found this one has the best comment and match my need.I only cook 2 cups at the time except when we have guests because I like my rice fresh and moist. This rice cooker keep rice warm and fresh for more than 24 hours, really!. I tried brown jasmine rice, brown basmati rice and white rice. They all came out best, so soft and plum. I love jasmine brown rice the most. Unlike the old one that cooking time was about 30 mins, but brown rice came out hard and uncooked even I put more water. I don't mind the fact that this new rice cooker cooking time is about 1 hour and 20 mins. I just start cooking rice first and do other dishes in the mean time. So everything is done and... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The best ever!! Perfect!!! The best in the Line!! Better than the 5.5 cup!, March 21, 2006
This review is from: Sanyo ECJ-F50S Micro-Computerized 5-Cup Rice Cooker and Steamer (Kitchen)
People who are addicted to Zojirushi may change their mind when they discover how great the Sanyo ECJ models are!! I have the ECJ-F50S, pretty much the same as the D55S but with a thicker titanium coating--3.5 mm!! The 5.5 cup only has 2.5 mm thick titanium coating. It's super durable and cooks rice perfectly! We have been using rice cooker our whole life and this is the best we have used so far! If size doesn't really matter, go for the 5 Cup F50s model, that one is much better!

This cooker makes good rice. I don't find it especially slow--mostly because I'm used to planning ahead for my brown rice already (80 minutes rather than 60). The rice has great texture and flavour. An excellent nonstick pot means you get the rice skin in your food rather than having it stick to the pot (sufficient rinsing minimises this); in some circles the skin is a delicacy. Basically, not bad.

The product is not particularly difficult to clean day-to-day. The pot is easy. The cover is attached via an annoying rubber ball and socket: it pops on and off easily enough but looks like a hack (for example, compare to Zojirushi's NS-ZCC10, in which the pot cover snaps in and out of a sturdy latch, and won't let you close the cooker if you forget to replace the pot lid after cleaning). The Sanyo's steam vent is a finnicky little ball vent: you have to pop off its enclosure and then unscrew the two halves. Fortunately it doesn't need to be cleaned often. The... Read more

Nordic Ware 64802 Microwave Egg Cooker

Product Description

Simple and fast. This microwavable egg shaped container makes perfect soft or hard boiled eggs. Holds up to 4 eggs. Dishwasher safe.

Amazon.com Review

NordicWare's handy Microware TM series for the microwave gives home chefs the tools they need for clean, lean, and fast cooking. This unique egg boiler safely prepares up to four hard- or soft-boiled eggs within its own white, oval shell. To use, simply place whole eggs into the little grooves of the interior perforated shelf (piercing not required), then screw on the top and cook. No more hot water and delicate maneuvering to keep the delicate goods intact! The plastic boiler is high-heat tolerant and goes conveniently into the dishwasher. --Kara Karll

5.0 out of 5 stars Microwave Egg Boiler, October 2, 2005
This review is from: Nordic Ware 64802 Microwave Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
It works great, and it's small (6" high, 5" diameter) and easy to use. May require some experimentation to get times correct for your own microwave. For me: 7 minutes for soft, 8 min for medium, and 9-10 min for hard eggs on high power (700W microwave).

It does get very hot, so you need to remove it from the microwave with a potholder or towel. I place the whole thing under the cold tap, then remove the top, and cool the eggs under running water for a minute before peeling.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Egg Boiler I've Found, March 24, 2006
This review is from: Nordic Ware 64802 Microwave Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
I can't boil eggs that come out perfectly, too many variables. But with the Nordic Egg Boiler, I am a happy camper. You have to experiment with the first two attempts to get the times right (your microwave power and time to cook the eggs per the instructions). But once you've got it down, you get "soft boiled eggs, medium boiled eggs, and hard boiled eggs (may I add, they are easy to peel, very easy!)". On my microwave, I set the time on high to 12.30 minutes. Thats it. I walk away. The microwave beeps at me. So what, let them sit there. When I'm ready I take them out of the microwave (use pot holders - it's still hot), and run them in the tray over cold water. Perfect eggs, whether soft boiled, medium, or hard boiled. I did not want a machine that had it's own heating elements, those machines in time, will break down from the moisture created, and this will result in increased cooking times or complete failure of the unit. The Nordic Egg Boiler works, it is easy to use, and it is... Read more

After trying & returning several microwave rice cookers I decided to give this one a try because of the great price and Nordic Ware's reputation. You MUST follow Nordic Wares instructions for cooking rice. Using any other recipes/directions, will result in your rice being soggy & the water not absorbing. The one noticible difference between the other cookers I tried and this one is that I didn't have to clean my microwave after using this rice cooker. NO SPILLS & OVERFLOWS! I just ordered a second cooker to place in storage just in case this model is discontinued. GREAT PRODUCT AT A GREAT PRICE!

Left home, missed the convenience of a REAL electric rice cooker, but this is the SAME THING!

Pros: Cooks rice without me having to worry about burning it on a stove. It's just the same as a rice cooker...you measure rice, water, put it in the microwave and forget about it. I guess the only extra steps you do have to worry about is that when it's done, you do have to go close the steamer lid and wait a few more minutes.

Cons: Virtually non-existent...but I must list them anyway. It is slightly a pain to clean the entire thing when I'm done compared to an electronic cooker. The lid comes apart in two pieces and I have to clean that too. (I don't have a dishwasher so that's why I mentioned this). For some reason, my little veggie bowl does not look like the one in the picture. I haven't used it for veggies or pasta yet but mine is shaped more like a bowl. When you first take it out of the microwave, there will be some water settling on the top and might get... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars I now own two of these!, July 13, 2007
This review is from: Nordic Ware Microwave Rice Cooker 8 Cup (Kitchen)
I got spoiled to good rice while I was living in Japan. This cooker makes good rice if you follow the directions and then adjust the timing on your microwave to match your style of rice. It's also very easy to clean up--the rice "gunk" doesn't stick to it. The cooker works wonderfully, and when I had a chance to buy a second unit at a very reasonable price, I jumped at it. Very good product; it does exactly what it's supposed to.
